Happy Employees, Happy Customers.

Your store's success isn't just for you, it's for your employees and their families as well.

It's all too easy to get caught up needing more students and travelers, and gear sales. Our employees take care of us and we must take care of them.

  • Host a holiday party for your employees, instructional staff and their families.

  • Give a small end of year bonus as a great way to show your appreciation.

  • Check in with your employees and make sure they are happy and fulfilled.

Host a holiday party for your employees, instructional staff and their families

Provide a night to let loose and have some fun with your employees and their families. This is an opportunity for you to show your appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Below are a few ideas

  • Throw a potluck at your home, the store or a favorite restaurant

  • Incorporate a secret Santa or white elephant gift exchange

  • Gift your employees and their families some shop swag

  • Give out awards for your rockstar staff members

One year we gifted one of our employees an Atomic T3. He earned it. This is an employee who was at nearly every pool weekend. He loved showing off his gifted regulator. This was a win all around.

Give an end of the year bonus as a great way to show your appreciation

My favorite year end bonus was always cash. This was a little something to help with the extra expenses around the holidays and a chance to tell your employees how much they mean to you.

There is just a special feel associated with a crisp $100 bill.

Other ideas can be traditional bonuses through payroll, gift cards, a turkey/prime rib for their family, etc. Its always best to gauge this based on your employees.

Check in with your employees and make sure they are happy and fulfilled

This is perhaps the most impactful of the 3 ways to show extra appreciation for your employees. It's time to sit down 1:1 with your employees and check in with them.

  • Are they happy?

  • Are they working toward their own goals? (inside or outside of your store)

  • Are they satisfied with the work they are doing?

  • Do they want to learn new skills, work in a different part of the business?

I always wanted to make sure that working for my dive store was valuable to my employees and that they were supported in whatever trajectory they were on. (Sometimes this was training them up so they could move on to other opportunities)
